BIG Totem Bear and Animal Communication!

Updated: Nov 14, 2021

Hello! You are going to LOVE this story!

The following is an excerpt from my book, "Discover the Ten Psychic Senses" (coming 2021).

This is an amazing story of a spirit animal story. It was a shock to me at the time! I can still so clearly remember the power of the bear.

Do you have a totem animal? Have you ever met an animal spirit guide? Have you felt the invisible presence of one? At the end of this blog, there is a simple exercise for you to call in your very own totem animal.

This YouTube video shows very much the kind of bear energy I experienced one day when I was doing an energy session with a client. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT BIG WILD ENERGY?

I was completely shocked the day I met the spirit of a wild bear! Even though I am an experienced psychic in animal communication, I never sensed such powerful, big forceful presence of live animal energy. And even though I have talked to animals who are living and animals on the Other Side, or heaven, I never have since felt anything as powerful as this giant bear.

The bear appeared in the living room!

I was conducting a psychic and energy session with a client at her home in Santa Monica, CA. I'll call her Clara. She had been diagnosed with cancer. She'd had surgery and was undergoing chemotherapy, to treat cancer. She had a wonderful attitude, telling me the illness was transforming her life and was a “great gift.” For her, having cancer was the impetus to go into a process of deep introspection and transformation. She was going deep within herself to reemerge reborn. It was as if she was hibernating and then would be re

Clara was a psychotherapist and dream analyst. Her work was based on a concept that the pineal gland in the brain is connection to higher sources of information. In her work with clients, she used a new model of therapy that helped them connect to that information. She combined the psychotherapy with her particular formula of dream analysis. Every session dealt with the pineal gland, high spiritual information and the answers to important questions in dreams.

During our session she was resting on a massage table. I had my hands on her head. In the peaceful, quiet atmosphere of her living room I suddenly “saw” in my inner mind a huge, black bear. He was not a tame or trained bear: he was a wild, life-size bear with long claws! To the rest of the world he was invisible. But I could "see" (psychic seeing) him in my mind's eye pacing back and forth! I felt his presence. There was strength, power and restless wildness there. He wasn't earthly but he was clearly a formidable creature!

I asked the guides, "Is this situation OK?"

Once I recovered from the shock, I silently asked my higher guides if this was appropriate! Was this bear to supposed be with us? Was there a purpose? Was it helpful? (I was prepared to gather my courage to send him away if necessary.) With some surprise, I “heard” in my inner mind (psychic hearing) that the bear’s presence was right. He was supposed to be there.

I decided to have a conversation with the wild bear. But this was not pet communication! This was not only a wild creature but a formidable presence I didn't know if he would communicate with me, nor how he would react! I centered myself and took a deep breath. Silently I asked him why he was with us. I didn't hear words, but through psychic knowing, the bear informed me he was there for the client, to protect and support her during this difficult time.

The bear was her totem animal.

I went back to work on the client, putting my hands back on her head to give her energy. But I monitored that bear!

He stayed in the living room with us awhile, still pacing, and then he ambled into the kitchen and started eating. He was not a cute, cartoon bear. He was a beast. He ravaged the cupboards. He knocked food off the counters and ripped cereal and cracker boxes to get the food inside. The kitchen was a psychic mess! I asked the bear what he was doing and I sensed his answer: If my client did not need him, eating was his favorite way to pass the time.

In reality, the kitchen was untouched. All the food was in the cupboards, everything was in place. Though he seemed to have so much life force, the bear was with us on a spiritual level, not a physical one.

Yet there was overlap between the two worlds. I was able to perceive him and his big life force on psychically.

Was he a spirit on the Other Side or a living bear?

I also had a sense of psychic knowing that this bear was now (or had been) an actual living bear. He was so full of boundless, living energy. His presence massive. His life force giant. But I wondered: Was this bear a spirit--had he crossed over and come to us from the Other Side? Or was this particular bear currently alive in the world? If so, can a bear be in two places or two dimensions at the same time? Could a bear bi-locate? It was November. Could he be hibernating? If he was, could it be possible he could travel in spirit to assist others? So many questions! Do you have any thoughts?

I also had a sense that the bear was happy, or content, to assist my client. But it was somewhat taxing for his spirit to be away from his natural environment. Eating helped ease his boredom when there was nothing to do. Once my client no longer needed him, I sensed he would return to his life in the wild.

I was so curious to know if my client could relate to bears as animals or had asked for him to come to her. I asked her, "Do bears mean anything special to you?" She looked at me with the wide eyes of surprise and told the following story.

She had walked with two wild bears in the mountains.

There was still awe in her voice as she told me of her special true story.

One day, while staying in a cabin high up in the mountains, she rose in the early morning and set out for a hike.

Shortly after starting out, she saw two, big black bears a short distance from the trail. First she was alarmed and thought about turning back.

Then, she sat down on a rock and looked at them. They sat down and looked at her.

She decided they were friendly and open to conversing with her. She said to the bears, “Hey, what are you doing?”

They stared at her as if to answer back, “Nothing, what are you doing?”

She said to them, “I’m going for a walk. Want to come?”

Fully aware they were wild bears, and that anything could happen, she decided to walk slowly and calmly along the trail, watching very carefully to see what they would do. What did they do? They got up and walked with her, staying off the trail to the side. If she sat down on a large rock to rest, they sat down where they were.

When she got up to walk again, so did they, always keeping even with her on the trail. The bears stayed her for two hours. She was amazed. Amazed at how easy it was to be near them and how companionable it was to be with them. Extraordinary.

Finally, the bears wandered off and she returned to the cabin alone in complete and total awe of her experience.

(Clara does not advise anyone to walk with wild animals! They can be unpredictable and while she decided to take the risk, she does not advise anyone else to do so.)

I told her about the bear spirit that had arrived to protect her. It was deeply meaningful to her. She was comforted to know a wild bear was with her, and felt she could rely on bear strength to help her through her ordeal and suffering.

She felt that this spiritual totem bear would protect her in all ways -- especially during her stays in the hospital.

She commented that people were so afraid for her when they learned she had cancer. They were so fearful of cancer in general. The anxieties of her friends and family were not helpful to her and she felt the bear would be a barrier between her and the fears of others.

Imagine a bear in her car!

During our later conversations and energy sessions, she told me she never "saw" the bear who was with her, but often felt its presence. Mostly she psychically felt him during her treatments and when in the hospital. But she also felt him riding in the car with her to and from her doctor's appointments. (Can you imagine a huge black bear riding in the passenger seat? LOL!)

Receiving toy bears.

During her hospital stay she received stuffed-bear toys from her friends who came to visit. Every hospital gift shop probably has stuffed bears for sale, so that's not unusual. But if you knew this woman, you would never give her a stuffed animal! She is a tall, extremely elegant, sophisticated, mature, serious European woman. Not the cute toy type! She told me afterwards that she was not surprised. She took the gifts as a good sign. Unknowingly, her friends had given her symbols of her bear walk.

After treatment, she returned to her life and her work with vigor. She said she felt deeply transformed. She told me happily, “Yes, my life has changed radically...and my work, too!"

There could not have been a better animal protector and guide for my client than Bear, for at least three reasons:

  • Her personal experience with real black bears

  • Her life's work as a psychologist, using dreams and the pineal gland

  • Her own withdrawing into the center of herself -- her inner cave -- so that she could heal her life to be reborn in all ways.

Totem of Bear: This exactly described Clara's transformational dream work

and the pineal gland!

Many months later, I was reading the book, "Medicine Cards: The Discovery of Power Through the Ways of Animals". I came to the section called Bear. I found myself astonished as I read this about the power of the bear: “Bear travels to the cave, which is the center...where the pineal gland resides. In the cave, Bear seeks answers while he/she is dreaming or hibernating. Bear is then reborn in the spring...”

Maybe we cannot explain the mysteries, but we can revel in their existence. There is a wisdom to the layers of life that can help and support you, too.

Do you have a Totem Animal?

Now is a good time to call in your own spiritual totem animal. If you already have one, do this exercise anyway and be open to what happens. The one you need right now will arrive, in some form, and you may be surprised. It might be as tiny as an ant or as large as an elephant. It might come to give you psychic protection or reinforce your self-love. It might come to you to help you feel stronger.

For 15 years, every time I ask, I get the same animal spirit guide or totem: A large black panther. I "see" her off to my right side. I don't know what she does or how she supports me, but I couldn't ask for a more beautiful, powerful and protective creature. I feel honored to have such a magnificent spirit guide. She doesn't move and pace like the bear. She is absolutely still. I don't feel him. When I asked her today why she is with me, she said in a thought form, "I protect you from negativity."

Your experience will be different and you may get a different totem animal every time you ask! Be open to your own experience.

Call in your Totem Animal now.

  1. Get comfortable where you are.

  2. Close your eyes and breathe.

  3. Ask for your totem animal to come to you.

  4. Say to your totem animal, "I request that you help me, protect me and support me all the days of my life.

  5. Then ask, "Why are you my totem animal?"

  6. "What will you do to protect me?"

  7. "What can you teach me?"

  8. Thank your totem animal.

Did you have a sense of what your animal is? Did you feel its presence? Have a sense of knowing? Did a thought come to you? Did you hear a sound? See smell something?
