Astral Travel or Out of Body Experiences (OBE)

Updated: Nov 6, 2021

Man experiencing astral travel

An out-of-Body Experience (OBE) is also called Astral Projection or Astral Travel. I’ve met people who've experienced OBEs. Some have had just one experience; others have had more. But OBE experiencers have described to me like this:

I felt myself lifting up and out of my body. My body was still alive but I was floating above it.

After I hovered above my body, I found I could move around in the room and beyond.

I could see everything from a different perspective. If I lifted myself higher, I could look down and see everything from above.

I discovered I could ‘travel’ around outside my body. My body was lying there but I was out and free to go anywhere I wanted.

It just happened!

Some people have told me their OBEs happened spontaneously, without trying. Quite a surprise! Especially for those who didn’t know anything about Astral Travel! They had no idea what was happening!

My good friend, Harry, calls Astral Travel "walking." He wanted to try it and he kept experimenting until he was able to do it. He told me he thinks of it as a skill he was able to develop and then he used it when he wanted to. (Read the fascinating stories of his OBEs below!)

Also read a quote below from Helen Keller about her out of body experience.

Returning to the body.

Everyone was able to go back into their bodies. Some found they popped back into their bodies spontaneously. Some told me at some point they decided to go back. They were surprised they could easily slip back into their bodies. Everyone found it to be an incredible experience! For some people it was enough to have one OBE. For others, like Harry, they wanted to have more!

Psychic Senses during Astral Travel?

Which psychic senses might be involved during Astral Travel? Psychic Seeing, Psychic Hearing, Psychic Knowing, Psychic Emotion and Psychic Body Feeling. It can be different for everyone, just like your individual combination of psychic senses is unique to you!

Read on to find out what Harry experienced. His experiences included Psychic Seeing, Psychic Hearing, Psychic Knowing, Psychic Emotion.

My friend, Harry, and his out-of-body experiences:

"I thought of it and then I tried it."

I started doing what I call Astral Walking when I was about 17. It was the time in my life when I began being very interested in metaphysics and metaphysical philosophy. I was reading everything I could about the subjects.

It began like this: One night I was lying in bed in my parent’s house. I thought, “Why don’t I try floating up out of my body and fly around the neighborhood like Peter Pan?"

I decided I would fly up through the ceiling, then the roof, then I would float around the cul-de-sac we lived in.

It took an enormous of concentration. The first few times, I had some scuffles at the ceiling level and fell back down to bed! But I kept doing it and got better.

I would float up, zoom around, look at things in the neighborhood from a whole different perspective.

I would get tired at a certain point and I would very softly float down back through the roof, back down through the ceiling, back to bed. That’s how it began.

I questioned it at first, but my gut told me it wasn’t imagination. It felt completely real. It also felt natural. I was never afraid.

I realized that OBEs had a practical aspect to it: THE DENTIST.

I am half English. I was born with terrible teeth. I spent loads of time in dental offices getting fillings, root canals, implants.

I didn’t want to be there, so I started taking the astral “walks.”

I was always half-aware that my body was still in the dental chair. But I left the chair as much as I could. I would climb up out of my body and walk down the hall out the front door or leave through a window. It seemed right to go through the door or window, even though they weren’t open. I could exit through them easily.

I put more focus and concentration on the astral walkabout then on the dentist. I strolled down the street. I never went to Italy or France! It didn’t occur to me. I would just take a “walk” around the dentist’s neighborhood.

I could "hear" everyone around me.

I could “hear" all that was around me. But it was not the same way you hear things in normal life. Sometimes it would be muffled, other times I heard people talking—or thinking!—like a very close whisper in my ear. Other times, if I was “walking” in a crowded place, I just heard crowd noise.

Sometimes I travel for work. After that, when I was sleeping in an unpleasant place—or if I couldn’t sleep—I would think, “I’m just gonna go for a ‘walk’.”

The more I did it, the easier it became. I could do it quicker and didn’t have to concentrate as hard.

Astral Travel at the Plaza Hotel, New York City

We had an executive suite. I was lying there in bed, my wife was asleep next to me. “Hey,” I thought, “I’ll just go for a “walk” for fun!”

I got up out of myself, got out of bed, went out the front door, down the hallway, and actually got in the elevator with a couple of people who had no idea I was there. I was looking at them. Down to the lobby. It’s 12 a.m. I am walking through the lobby. Real people around. I'm walking around. Nobody can see me.

I thought: Hey, I’ll walk to the Central Park, entrance on Central Park South. I start walking out through the front doors. There are people coming and going through the revolving doors.

Then I see a guy in his late 20's wearing an army jacket and blue jeans. White guy. Dark hair. 3-4 day stubble. Trim. Not real big. 5’ 8-9”. He’s lounging right near the revolving doors. I take note of him but keep going. He had a dark presence—not the worst in the world. He didn’t scare me but I didn’t like him and wanted to get away from him.

I realize he's a ghost.

Then he looks at me. He SEES me. I'm invisible to everyone else but HE sees me. I realize: He’s a ghost and he’s hanging out in the lobby.

I looked at him. He looked at me. We made full eye contact. I realized he was completely aware of me and it hit me like a 220 volt open circuit. SHOCKED. I was shocked so much that I snapped back to my bed in 1/100,000 of a second and I sat up, breathing hard. My heart was racing.

There I was having a leisurely stroll, having a good time being invisible. And someone, a ghost, could see me! But nothing bad happened. I was just surprised and shocked and a little freaked out.

"Fear nothing."

Don’t ever be scared. Remember, you have the power and the control. YOU WILL NOT GET LOST.

You are always tethered to your living physical self, whether you feel it or not. It is so strong that it will not, cannot break. You may be unaware of it from time to time, but it is always there. My cord is like a creamy, white flexible cord, but is stronger than tensile steel, stronger than rebar. It cannot be broken.

Don't you love Harry's OBE experiences? Thanks, Harry, for sharing your stories and giving us good advice. Remember, your astral travel experiences may be different than Harry's. Some, like the teachers from my former psychic school, Glenda and Peter, have out of body experiences when sleeping.

Helen Keller and her out-of-body experience:

I'll leave you with a quote from Helen Keller about her Astral Travel experiences: In her book, My Religion, Helen Keller tells of her experience of "traveling" out-of-body to Athens, Greece:

I have been far away all this time, and I haven't left the room...It was clear to me that it was because I was a spirit that I had so vividly 'seen' and felt a place a thousand miles away. Space was nothing to spirit!”*
